Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located within Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News a year later. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. When she joined NBC News in 1992, Mitchell was made as the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist at the 1988 debate between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell has a husband, Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. She reported on a variety of noteworthy stories including guns control, tax reform for the budget and the Iran-contra saga. She visited extensively with President Reagan to meetings along with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world presidents.
